I donвЂ™t wish to be a bother but I was just wondering if I was doing some thing wrong. I entered my password, nothing seemed to happen, so I quit terminal and loaded it back up again only for the sudo purge to also pop up with the command not found message. A warning popped up and asks me for my password. So I then tried the sudo purge command just to see what would happen. I have one question though, with the purge command I have tested it out and within terminal the message -bash: purge: command not found, pops up I have all the expansions up to University and am going to try using this technique to try and play the game for more than 5 minutes. I have an Imac, which has 4GB of memory and 1TB of storage/space and IвЂ™m at OS X version 10.6.8.

When you type in your password it will not appear вЂ“ just keep typing and hit Enter.ДЄctivity Monitor has also changed slightly. Once you enter your password the memory will be freed up. You will get a warning message and a prompt to enter your password. However you can still purge the RAM by entering вЂњ sudo purgeвЂќ (without the quotation marks)В into Terminal. Typing purgeВ no longer works due to the new compressed memory feature built into Mavericks. This is by no means a magical fix for the numerous crashing/lagging/hanging issues but it can help if your issues are memory related. ThereвЂ™s no limit to the amount of times you can do this. Your game should now perform a bit quicker. After a few moments you should see the free RAM figure increase: If itвЂ™s low you definitely need to free some up. Next, open up Activity Monitor and see how much free RAM you have:ДЄpplications > Utilities > Activity Monitor With the game running (and paused) hold down CMD and press Enter. If youвЂ™re running Snow Leopard you can install Xcode from the disc that came with your Mac.ДЇirstly, play in windowed mode so you can see what youвЂ™re doing. ItвЂ™s free, provided by Apple, and available from the App Store. If you get вЂњ Command not foundвЂќ in Terminal you may need to download Xcode in order for it to work. You can buy apps from the App Store to do this but why bother when you can do it through Terminal for free? You can do this when your game starts to lag noticeably which seems to happen to me when IвЂ™m moving between Vacation, University and Home worlds in The Sims 3. You need to free some of it up and you can easily do this whilst youвЂ™re playing. Another symptom is the Exception Raised, do you wish to debug it? error message. If you suffer from frequent crashes/lagging/hanging in game and/or the dreaded Error 12, this may be because your Mac is running out of RAM whilst youвЂ™re playing.
